7 Examples of a Bicycle User Experience (BUX) in Practice

Updated: Aug 19, 2022

#ExamplesOfGoodBUX

How might we design for how everyday people feel while riding a bike? How can we make everyday biking widespread and inclusive?

The Bicycle User Experience (BUX) approach utilizes human-centered design methods to create practical, comfortable and usable bike infrastructure that is integrated into the specific context of the community. This blog has explored 7 pieces of real infrastructure to see how they connect to the BUX approach.

  1. Hovenring

  2. Disco Tunnel

  3. UC Davis Campus

  4. Bronx River Greenway

  5. Rijksmuseum

  6. RijnWaalpad

  7. Davis Greenbelt

Each infrastructure has strengths and weaknesses, and they all provide an opportunity to learn about how cycling experience can be implemented in practice.

Their success comes from making riding a bike an intuitive, easy everyday activity that is done by and accessible to people of all backgrounds. The common thread is to think about people and fit the bike into their lives.
